Here at the Young Mummy Survival Guide, we are really excited to be telling you all about Mindful Monsters, a new way of aiding your child’s life skills development and encouraging you all to spend quality time together.
This wonderful new initiative comes from Scope, the disability charity, is an exciting new way to encourage the development of key life skills through quick and easy activities which the whole family can enjoy including children, parents and even grandparents. With 84 cards to collect, you’ll be sure to find an activity you all love!
Research shows that the family as a whole can benefit from the effects of mindfulness including:
More resilience in day-to-day life
Better understanding of their emotions
A sense of calm
More positive thinking – promoting kindness and gratitude
The activities are split into four categories, beautifully represented by four characters. Thinky is on hand to help you improve your concentration which can positively affect their experience and progression at school. Giggles is here to help our children focuses on the happy, positive aspects of life while Sparky encourages us to be a little bit silly every now and then. Finally, you can enjoy some relaxation and zen time with Snug to de-stress at the end of the day.
Lily and I have a had a wonderful time trying out some of the activities. Our favourite one is a concentration activity from Thinky. Activity 61 is about concentrating on balance by placing your hands together above your head and standing on one leg. We had a challenge to see who could balance the longest…Lily was good, but mummy definitely rocked this one! Either way, we both did well and had a sticker each as a reward!
Not only are you and your family receiving benefits from this, but you’ll also be helping support the amazing work Scope carries out. Through a £7.50 monthly donation, every £1 you spend will go towards:
Supporting disabled people and their families.
Selling donated goods through Scope shops.
Fundraising with their team of brilliant supporters like you!
Making sure the charity runs efficiently to help those who need it.
