Right, I've joined the work weight loss gang. I need to lose about a stone I think but oh my.... I really miss wine and biscuits, plus I'm making sure we become healthier as a family.
I've struggled with my weight for years. I'm never happy with it and I've struggled to lose it since having Cecily. I'm getting some of my pre-second-baby clothes back on but they're just not comfy and I reckon I need to drop around a stone to help that.
The great thing is that everyone else is doing it too. It's nice as it doesn't feel so much of a challenge with everyone doing it. The first week has been okay and I even manged to drop 4lb!
It's also a great exercise to do as a family. As a family of 4 with two working parents, we do find ourselves relying on ready made meals sometimes and that isn't a healthy road to go down. We want Lily and Cecily to have healthy diets and know about how to balance food properly. For this, we've been trying to cook from scratch as much as possible, cutting out pre-made sauces and finding healthy cuts of meat where we can. We shop at our local Aldi and have found that the meat from there is really good and they have the less fat and lean options for mince.
Making sure our children have a healthy diet is really important, especially in the early years when they're growing quickly. It's also important for active children like Lily. She has PE twice a week at school and has dance class for 3.5 hours a week so making sure she has enough energy from sleep and diet is essential. I don't mind her having to odd treat but overall, I'm trying to encourage healthy habits such as switching her crisp snacks for some fruit (she has inherited Matt's love of crisps). As for Cecily, it's all about making sure she tries a variety of foods and flavours.
Of course with a healthy diet you need exercise. Lily already does more than enough but the rest of us just don't. I'm trying to convince them all to go on more walks, even if it's just around town. I just want us to get out more as a family and we can use that time to not only exercise, but spend time together and if we can do that while keeping active then even better! To aid with that, we're looking for a new baby carrier for Cecily. She weighs too much for the one we have so we're looking for a newer one so that we can go back to doing woodland walks. I hate taking the pushchair though our local wood as there is no clear path and I hate the clean up afterwards, it's much easier to take a carrier. Any suggestions are more than welcome!
Fingers crossed I can carry on dropping the pounds following the Slimming World plan. I'm quite hopeful as lots of people seem to do well on it.
